suitable materials?

what would all of you proffesionals consider to be a good but cheap wood for an external door?

Poplar and then Alder.

dont suppose pine would be a good one then :lol: what about if i varnish them?

I would steer clear of pine for an exterior door. Alder is probably the easiest to varnish/stain.. poplar is good for painting.
