Adding brick siding to an existing home?

I am getting ready to replace the masonite siding on my woodframe house. I intend to replace it with vinyl siding, but would first like to explore the plausibility of replacing my siding with brick.

Is this possible, or would the cost be prohibitive?

There is a pretty substantial cost increase for the materials and labor.. above that you're probably also looking at costs for ledger angles to hold the weight of the brick and possibly some modifications to the soffits/eaves.
I'm not much of a brick expert though.
