My dream home construction is becoming a nightmare.

To get to the point quickly, with a reputable builder is it possible to back out of the home purchase and retrieve some deposit money back.

It would depend on what the purchase contract has in it. Most often it will give an exit clause and what money in the escrow account gets returned - if anything.
