I'm almost finished with my remodel (a very long 16 months) and am ready to finally hook up my 200 amp box that I have installed. I have actually been running the box off of a 50amp breaker connected to the old 100amp box because I have only been using the light fixtures that max about 1000 watts total and one or two outlets for battery chargers for my power tools, so I never even got close to the max power output of the 50 amp. So my box is all hooked up and ready to switch to 200 amp service. I have bought all the 2" rigid conduit, appropriate fittings and connectors, weather head, meter base, etc. I just haven't bought the wire yet. I'm thinking I need to run 2- 3/0 copper for the 2 power wires, but that's about all I know...am I correct? Do I also run 3/0 copper for the neutral or something a little smaller? My girlfriends dad has hooked up the ground wire from the new box to a grounding rod outside. He used either 8g. or 10g copper wire and only one grounding rod. I'm thinking I need to add another grounding rod for my 200amp system?? Correct? Is the gauge wire correct or do i need bigger/smaller? Also, is there any type of grounding I need to do at the meter since I'm running rigid metal conduit? Thanks in advance

Since I am online I will pass on some of the knowledge I have on the subject. I installed a 400 amp service two years ago for my addition and passed the inspection so maybe I can help. I do not know were you are but here in West Virginia I had to have two ground rods installed. There is a minimum distance they need to be from one another and it was recommended that they be placed outside of the roof eve edge. I have a 32 inch overhang were the panel was installed. The ground wire between the rods and the Panels had to be continues. I had two panels. The Meter socket did not get grounded with my grounding system but I used PVC to connect the meter socket to the panels. I believe the ground wire was 6 AWG. I would have to check that again it has been so long. Hope this helps.
