I am pondering the idea of bricking my house which currently has siding on it.
What are some things that I need to consider when buying bricks? Are there different grades of bricks or is the price set mostly to color? Different price ranges, qualties, etc.?

thanks for your help

There a few different sizes.. I would suggest using modular brick and not Jumbo, Queens, or Kings. With a traditional red brick you'll find the cheapest price.. once you go into a modelled brick or multi-colored brick the price will jump. Qualities are pretty standard within a product line. Between manufacturers there are probably some quality differences.. look at Acme brick or Robinson brick if they are in your area.

Brick are grouped into 3 classification FBX, FBS & FBA they deal with dimensional & range of color tolerences as well as acceptable percentages of blemishes...FBX is the most stringent, FBA the least...I would suggest that you look at a waterstruck brick, which have proven to be an exceptional veneer brick in both appearance and performance...Check out the Brick Institute's website for more brick info:www.bia.org

P. S.: Make sure the brick you finally decide on is labled SW (Severe Weather)
