What: Installing a 12' slider in place of a 9' atrium on a load bearing outside wall. The adjoining room has a tray ceiling (aka Coffer Vault), the tray meets the outside wall at an angle. (there is not a horizontal flat surface on the outside perimeter of the room)

The current header spans the 9' door. Three lvl's are spec'd to support the new 12' span.

Question:
What is the best way to temporarily support the roof load?

Couple thoughts:
- There is a deck outside the door. Install a temp wall on the deck under the rafter tails on the outside edge of the soffit?

- Install a temp wall inside the room at the point the inside ceiling goes flat? (about 3' in from the outside wall)
- (&) Install an angled support wall against the side of the tray vault?

Thank you for your thoughts.
Steve

I'd support both sides. Make sure you support the temp walls all the way down to a foundational element, such as a slab or footing.

I was hoping for some thoughts on the tray vault and how I might support it. My "thoughts" above were just guesses on my part and looking for validation/suggestions.

With respect to "support the temp walls all the way down to a foundational element, such as slab or footing"..... This is a second floor project, are you saying the inside wall should have a corresponding support wall located in the room located below? (which has the slab)

Thank you,
Steve

Yes, supported all the way through. I can only respond to what you give me. You need to support all elements your are disturbing. You can't have enough temporary support. It may sound like over kill, but it is your home why risk any failure.
