I am at the starting point on planning to build a house I am considering modular unit but am not sure of the drawbacks with that type of structure.
such as possibly adding on at later date, or resale value, etc, etc. can somebody direct me to site where I can get honest answers to the pros and cons to such a venture.

Thank you in advance
pierre

Modular as in pre-fab and placed on your foundation? Most manufacturers are full fledged homes like any other home - they just get delivered on a trailer. So as far as expanding later - it should be just like any other addition... pour the foundation and build on it.
Beyond that I have no knowledge of the resale values, etc.

I recently went to a web site with them talking about structural insulated panels (www.americapanel.com). would any one have any infomation about them. I would really like to hear from someone that may have used that kind of product. They make sound with there materials that a unit could go up as quickly as a modular can.

Prefab walls, if coordinated and planned out, can be a very viable and economic method of construction. And they do go up quickly with a forktruck or crane (depending on height/size of panels). As far as SIP manufacturers I've never dealt with any of them... other than a few calls to one in Canada.

Rich I must thank you first of all for responding to my questions. Could you also tell if there is any where either of this site where I can find out of the seqeuncing of this type of project. I am thinking of beign my own Gc so I would like to see what is the enormity of scope that I would be dealing with.

A SIP constructed project is like any other project. Foundation, floor, SIP framing, roof framing, rough-in, inspect, drywall, paint, etc..etc. You can read this article to get a brief outline http://www.construction-resource.com/building-process.php
