Hi,
Can anyone give me a clue as to how much daily progress I could expect a stone mason to achieve when building a random stone wall 24 ins thick from existing foundations ? The wall to be filled with a rubble & lime mix & field stone on both sides.
Thanks from the prospective owner of a 200 year old stone cottage in Ireland.

sounds like a question for burnsy
I've always figured about 150-200 sf per day with the big stuff. It's working out about right on a large stone wall I'm having done right now.

Rich,
by "sf" you mean sq ft ?
Chris
Yep..
that estimate might be a little light - it can vary greatly depending on experience and equipment available.

Thanks Rich for the info. Its a great help.Any idea about the work rates on re building the wall itself say from the foundation upwards assuming the mason has everything to hand.We have two sections about 168 sq ft in total which have been "demolished" by a falling tree. The masons are very experienced.
(Last question I promise!)
I honestly have no idea how it would relate to Ireland. I think Shanley had a post earlier about $38/hr (US). As far as duration you're probably looking at about 4-5 days for clean-up, mobilization and actually constructing the wall. 3 man crew most likely - one to place, one to mix, and one to carry stones. At least the way I see it - not much of a mason though :)
