OK, let me clarify I am not going to do this myself but I want to be prepared as I go on the hunt for a quality contractor to fix this. I have a balloon frame farm house built late 1800. The exterior wall has bowed out in the middle, moving it off the foundation. Unlucky for me the home inspector did not notice this so now I have to get it fixed. I discovered this when blowing in insulation. Some facts to help: This is a two story. I am pulling the room apart now as it had drop ceilings and paneling that hid damaged plaster. I have not touched the bad wall yet. Discovered that at some point in front of the bowed wall there had been a wood stove that would have had a pipe going straight through the second floor and out the roof. Based on the lapboard around the pipe path they are lucky then did not burn the house down. Also on second floor in same area there is the remnants of a brick chimney which is gone from the roof and missing from the first floor. I believe there is still brick in the attic.
So looking for thoughts questions things to think about so as the bids come in I can ask intelligent questions and feel comfortable that the job will be completed properly.
