Basement Framing Question

Finishing the basement. Will be adding several non load bearing walls. My question is how to do attach the TP of the wall to the joists with all the utilities in the way? I show where the wall goes in the picture. I will have a drop ceiling giving about 8 1/2 ' ceiling height, so no soffits required. Any advice would be appreciated.

You can probably use a double 2x4 top plate & notch the top 2x4 plate around the mechanicals. Make sense? Box out or soffit around the heat duct.
