pocket for beam in foundation?

Is it ok to put in a beam pocket (for steel I beam) even if you may not end up using it? For example, we will have an 8 in thick wall and I assume the beam pocket would be about 4 inches in depth to fit a 10 in steel beam.

Installing a beam pocket will not affect the concrete wall if you don't install a beam. A 3-1/2" - 4" beam pocket is fine.
