I need to move a large rock (2'*4'*1.5') several feet. I know that if I try to pry the rock with a shovel, I am going to break it in two. Is there any special tools for prying rocks? I think if I pry the rock up, I can roll it. Has anybody had any experience with this?

Thanks!

A chain and a Bobcat bucket works really well...

But since you probably don't have that sitting around at your disposal, several friends and some large metal prybars might do the trick.

Be careful! And don't go rolling it into your new shed! LOL

Use some metal pry bars to lift it onto some old fence posts or small logs (3 - 4" dia) androll it over.

Or

Pull it with your truck, if you have one

If you have an old sheet of plywood and a couple of two by fours you could make a sled. Just screw the two bys one one top and one one the bottom using three inch dry wall screws to the plywood. Sandwiching the plywood between the 2bys at least six inches from one end of the sheet of plywood.
Cut two holes in the plywood so you can loop a chain around the two bys and you have a sled. Now just put the sled beside the rock and flip the rock over on to the sled pull the sled with a truck or garden tractor and you got it made.

i have actaully uses an engine crane at times. drill and pin somthing to hook a chain onto and start pumping up the engine crane, once you have a lot of pressure on the stone (up) start loosing it all aorund with a big bar. at least this way you won't tear up you whole yard with a skid steerer

good luck

I like using sleds, or if you have something to leverage on nearby , I use a lot of ropes...that or even most basic and sort of ghetto, is just tigh a strong enough rope to your car's tow point and the rock if you can. transmission abuse aside, this works. ropes often snap too so be careful.

Make sure you have something to stop the rolling rock.....that's not your buddy holding a beer!

you can buy one of those ratchet pulley things, but you need something to secure the line to.

Depending on the position of the rock, you can also do it this one way I did, LOL, which is just tie the rock to your car and drag it. tranny wont like it, but depending on what type of car it is, can be fine. obviously be aware that the rope may snap and whip someone in the face and cut open their face. I am not a professional, but this ghetto version works.

also of course it will leave a trail of destruction from where it drags.
