I have a walk way from the front door of my house to my driveway with approximately six 5" steps. Can someone explain the process used to build steps with paver stones?
Some of the homes I looked at before had the steps veneered with the same style paver to blend in and it looks good, but I need to have the original ones removed "Jack hammered out" I can understand how the flat surface is assembled... but Haven't a clue about how the steps are built up not having a cement step to use as a foundation.
thanks in advance GG

Honestly, it would be cheaper to pour a concrete foundation, and veneer that. By building it with only pavers, it's going to get very expensive.

If you do decide to use only pavers, you need to remove the old concrete stair structure, and level the area where you want the new stairs. You will probably want a 4-6" comapcted base of crushed aggregate or pea gravel depending on your soil type, and then another 2-3 inches of sand on top of that.

Then begin building with your pavers; making sure that each layer is level as you build. I would use the opposite pattern as you build up. That is, if you lay one layer east and west, the next layer should go north and south.

But if I were doing in, I would form it up, pour the concrete, and verner it with one layer of pavers and mortar. But that's just my .02$ Jason
