I am going to be contracting the project myself and also doing a lot of the inside work. I am purchasing ready made plans. Are 5 sets of plans enough or what would be a realistic number ot sets?
I would request originals on vellum or mylar - then you can reproduce as many as you want when you want. I believe there is a small increase in price in most cases.
5 sets of plans really aren't many for a GC.. figure for each trade that you have on the job you'll want at least 3 estimates. Mechanical, electrical, and plumbing will probably be bid at the same time - theres 9 copies.
You probably won't need that many but you never know. Best case scenario would be to find a reprographics company and leave the originals with them.. as you get people to bid on the project tell them to call the reprographics company and have them print a set. After the estimate is complete have the plans returned to you to use in the next go round of bids. Put together a bid schedule so you know where your drawings are and when you'll be bidding for what.
