Hello all,

What water supply piping is better for new construction in a moderate weather state (VA) - CPVC or PEX. What are the pros/cons of each type? PEX looks more flexible, but also less sturdy - but I worry it looks flimsy. Also, should I specify a cast iron main drain pipe, or PVC for that also - I heard PVC is noiser?

Thanks for the help.

Cast Iron is much much quieter than PVC for drain/waste. I've used CPVC for hot water supply but never PEX. I've heard both good and bad about it. Flimsy versus easy install. Why not copper?

Hi,

Thanks for the feedback. I've been told by several plumbers that copper has problems with the well water in my area, so cpvc is better choice. All the buildings under construction in the area use cpvc or pex, but that could be due to cost since most are just high-end tract homes.
