hi folks.

my girlfriend and i are restoring a log cabin that was build some time around the turn of the 20th century.

we've ripped everything out right down to the foundation, which despite it's age is in very good shape. the design is interesting, the foundation has huge logs running right through the top of it, which overhang the outside of the foundation about a foot. the log walls were resting on this overhang, not the actual foundation, which is made of stone and mortar.

our plan is to smooth off the top of the foundation which is pretty rough, and frame our new floors and walls on top of that. this is only a one-storey.

my question is what is the best material to pour over the top of this foundation, that we can embed our anchor bolts on and build our walls onto? will mortar be strong enough? i'm assuming mortar would be the best choice since the rest of the foundation is made out of it.
