Try this web site, http://www.lie-nielsen.com/use.html, for fundamentals, I've found the recommended blade grinding angles helpful. Also the best article I've seen was in "The Wooden Boat" in a two part series titled, Aime Ontario Fraser, author:/"Troubleshooting Planes, Part I: Blades, angles, and parts, the next issue was part II. I had both issues but I have been unable to find them. Wooden Boat has a web site and you might get reprints if I can't find mine. Also Fraser has a number of books out that might contain the same info.

The book doesn't actually show that particular joint. But it looks to be a combination of a knoe hozo and a yonmai hozo or it could be more closely resembling a ashikatame beam. Very complex stuff in this book.. amazing really.

sure looks strong, i think i may have to buy it, as my knowledge of M&T's go they are proportioned in thirds so are those small side things in thirds of the side of the mortise hide? oh im geting confused now!

haha.. I'll have to look tonight. They do layout many different types of mortise and tenon joints as well as scarf joints, log joints, etc.
Someday I'll be able to build my own timber frame home - already have a design done :). I've only gotten to do some minor timber work on an open porch on the last house I built in MT.

A 3d image I did a few years ago. Not a high quality image but you get the idea. The left would be public and the right section is bedrooms.
