I am working on putting a backyard putting green in. I am going with a real bentgrass green instead of synthetic. I was wondering if maybe some people have done this?

I will post some pics in a couple of weeks as progress gets going.

My father put a bent grass green approx 15' x 25' in his back yard. The really only bad thing is the maintanence. He had to buy a mower capable of trimming it down to around 1/2", then another to go around and "texture" the green. If you decide to do it put a 1-3 rough around it to help with drainage. Hope all goes well

Did you ever get your putting green in? I've built two or three with good results and can give you some internet assistance if you need it.

Nope, it never happened.

Do you have any pics?

Sorry for the delay in keeping up with this one, but the net was down and my new house is going up, so I've been a bit distracted....
dnm is right, Cole. It's all about the equipment to keep it usable. If you have a friend at your local golf course, you may be able to score an old greensmower... that would be a big first step. From the time you plant, you'll have about five weeks to track down the equipment you need or it will start getting unruly on you... pretty, but unruly.
Just a bit of advice... as cool as it may seem at first, don't build too many slopes and humps into the green's design. It's almost impossible to mow without scalping (1/8 of an inch is pretty low) and the amusement factor of the circus shots wears quite thin inside of about ten minutes. Plan for a reasonably flat stretch where you can practice a straight and level ten footer.
The greens I've done vary in size from a 700 sq ft piece that fits into a smallish backyard, to my own 1800 sq ft toy with bunker and water hazard. they all have an area where you can practice some "real" putts.
I'll get some pics together in the next few days and post them for you.
Check in on Leo Melanson's Putting Green site putting-greens.com, he has some good info and a manual you can get for about ten bucks that walks you through the process. I still refer back to it now and again when I'm planning out a new greens project. (I'm actually building a nine-hole golf course in my back yard)
Good Luck!

Awesome, now I can tell my wife that I am not the only one wanting a putting/chipping green in my backyard! Kinda hard not to want one when you live right behind Augusta National for 2 years! Master's traffic sucks!!!!!!!!!!

LOL I want one as well...I can imagine there is a good amount of work to go into it, especially if you want it decent.
