Well... I have this brainiac idea for marketing. I usually have at least one ayear that pays off. I really like working for General Contractors and Builders. It takes a big strain off of the marketing budget. If you do a good job you have a repat customer.

My idea for next spring is prepare some written letters and faxes and phone calls to local GC's and Builders. Basically make them aware that I am here and eager to work for them. This blatent saturation will be disguised as a personal attempt to seek their attention and not a mass marketing effort. Hell the winter is too cold for roofing anyways... I gotta keep busy!

What are your thoughts on this idea? I know I can pull it off without pissing off too many people but will my efforts pay off?

The effort could be worth it - but depending on how large the base of contractors is in your area may determine how much work you actually get. Make sure to not double up on calls, letters, or faxes to any one contractor. I would say to use letters. Calls are time consuming for you, faxes are annoying, but letters can be done in a form letter type and done pretty quickly. Then a few days or weeks later give a call and see if they received it...

You said: Then a few days or weeks later give a call and see if they received it.

That was my thought exactly.

I don't think a fax would be annoying if it were actually a letter, and with WinFax I can do a mail merge and make it appear like a personal letter but for MUCH cheaper than sending a postal letter.

I didn't think about that. I guess I was thinking of the fax advertising I've seen. Most of it is pretty tacky - so a more formal letter might do the trick.
