EDIT: PS- just wanted to tell you guys my favorite forms of contact are in order: AIM(BEST), Thread reply, or Email.

First off, let me tell you that I have very little experience with construction. The best I can say I have is when my father hired me as an assistant in construction detailing. However, I am not looking for the best way to do this, I am simply looking for a way to improve our horrid basement bathroom. I absolutely do not have the $$ to have it professionally done, so I googled up the best construction forum and found you guys :)

I just took pictures a few minutes ago of the bathroom. Before I display them, heres what I want to do:

-anything

I don't care if it doesn't come out good, basically if when finished, it looks better than it does right now I will be happy. The main things I want to do is improve the shower and maybe replace the floor. Again, I know very little about construction so I would come here to ask what I need and I will check the hardware store for costs. For procedures I will also have to ask here but I can also use the internets other unlimited sources.

Heres a wholeshot of the bathroom:

I might be in over my head with this new project. However, just 2 months ago I decided I did not like our backyard and not only built a pond, I first lowered the overall dirt 6 inches(about ~15,000 lbs. of dirt solo by hand and shovel) because when our house was built my grandfather took the cheap way out and threw all the dirt from where the house now stands into the backyard and side of the house. My entire budget for the project was only 450$ for the pond equipment PLUS liner, free river rocks and water lilies along with testing supplies(thanks to craigslist.org) and another 500 for taking out the dirt. This bill, compared to a estimated 3000$+ for having someone else do it was much better.

Basically, what I mean to say is I can finish a project I begin so long as I have the know how or am told what to do. In this project I am currently completely ignortant on how to begin. Thanks for even reading this entire post if you got to here!

Heres some other images of things I might want to improve if I can do the others first:

Not sure what you want when you say you don't want the best way but looking for a way to improve it. Change the flooring. Put in a big square mirror to make it look bigger. New cabinet. Paint the shower floor. Recess the cabinet ( in between the studs ) over the toilet. Allow no clutter of anything. Small washrooms appear bigger with very few things in it. If you want you can get very small sinks and put it in the corner.

Before you begin purchase all the items you want to install. I would begin by purchasing a new vanity from home depot - you can get most sizes inexpensively. Find a tile wholesaler and tile the bottom of the shower. Make sure to shower is draining properly before tiling. Rip up the linolium and buy a fresher looking floor - Home Depot and Lowes often have great prices on floor tiles - the self stick isn't great for a place where water flows. Invest in a neutral like 12X12 limestone - neutral and will last for a long time. Wall tiles look in good shape and should blend nicely with a limestone. You can often get it for 99 cents a square foot. Polish faucets. Depending on the size of the replacement vanity - try hanging the mirrow the long way. The mirror looks nice from the photo - but if for some reason you don't like it - paint the trim. I agree about recessing the cabinet. Paint will go a long way. If you are artistic- try a gray paint which you can marbelize - faux painting. Otherwise a blue-gray paint to blend with the limestone and shower tiles would be nice. Paint the trim in a bright blue or royal blue.Add some shelves. Invest in a pretty toilet paper holder. Little details go a long way in enhancing a space. If you can afford it you can replace the shower curtain with a glass door. That will open up the space. Cover the pipe or if you can move the toilet in front of it. Good luck.
