Hello,

I'd like to request anyones thoughts/ideas on framing a porch roof on top of the edge of my existing gable roof(as opposed to attaching the rafters on the fascia board, etc). The type of roof im looking to build is pictured in the following post, but i'd like to build the roof without cutting into the existing roof. Is this possibe? Would this lead to any problems? What is the best way to go about this?

Thanks for the help in advance.

The link you have there is pretty close to what you will have. But take the intermediate cross piece out and place a continuous 2x6 on top of the roof. Or take off the fascia and run the new rafters along side the existing rafters. With this method you may need to cut off the bottom of the existing rafters so they don't protrude into the space. Of course, this depends on what type the underside of the roof is.
