Newbie here! - Wood paneling & alternatives

Hello,

I am having my basement re-done and would of like to have some kind of paneling - something that is warm and wood-coloured. Any ideas for alternatives to wood (as it can be expensive) or relatively inexpensive woods that can be used?

I would probably do some wainscot and maybe a chair rail. Depending on what type of theme you're going with you could use anything from pine to maple. Pine of course is pretty cheap but if finished correctly it can look pretty good.
