I am putting an extension on my house for a workshop. I will need to place about 25 yards of concrete for the footings, stemwall and landscaping retaining walls. To save placement costs( pump trucks etc,) I want to form and pour the footings, stemwalls, and retaining walls at one time. The footings and walls have been designed by a Structural engineer.
The footings are typically 2'6'' or 1'6" in width and the walls range from 1'6" to 6' in height. The site is on hardpan (very hard) so it is difficult to drive in stacks.

To hold the footing forming together I was thinking of using 1"x4" ties on 16" centers on both the top and bottom of the footing formwork.

Does anyone have experience with construction of formwork for a monopour in the situation I described?

Please reply to my e-mail address. lloydz@shaw.ca
Thanks

The biggest problem is how to hold up the stemwall over the footing formwork and keep it stable enough to not look like a snake when finished. I've never poured anything in that manner before but I'll ask around and see what I can come up with.

Thanks, I'd appreciate the help.

I haven't found much of anything. The only references I can find are for monolithic slab foundations which won't help much. One idea that comes to mind would be using a steel angle that sits on top of the footing (put lots of form stakes in to hold level) and you can then screw through the plate into the stemwall formwork. You'll have to brace it like crazy at the top to keep it straight and probably have some adjustment after the fact. The footing would have to be poured all the way around to give it enough time to begin to setup and then come back and pour the stemwall slowly so it didn't disrupt the footing - maybe 2' lifts.
