advertising cost?

What do you guys budget in for advertising? Do you base your advertising on your revenue the year before or do you spend as much as you think you can afford?

How much do you actually spend?

It's mostly word of mouth. When we first started we had a website, jobsite signs, and ads in a weekly listing in the newspaper. Newspaper ads cost around 12 / week (one day) depending on size. The jobsite signs were about 175 one time cost. Word of mouth is priceless.

Word of mouth is by far the best... I can;t believe a company could live on that little advertising though. I'm impressed. If we relied only on word of mouth we would be out of business because I would say only one in four customers take the time to refer us.

Where we were at was a pretty small community where many of the outlying communities had friends or family that I or my family knows.
