I am in the market to buy a good 12" Compound Mitre Saw. I now use a Dewalt 10" but need to upgrade. The Dewalt did me good for years but since B&D bought them, I have heard their quality has decreased. Can I get some recommendations on what brand to buy from the experts here? I am open to buying Sliding Compound, Single Bevel or Dual Bevel. I just want to get the best bang for the buck. I will mainly be using it for Hardwood flooring, laminate flooring and furniture making.
Thanks again for all your help. This site just continues to impress me.

For 12" my personal favorite is Hitachi - it's a bit more money but it's a very accurate saw. For 10" I like Milwaukee.

I've got the Bosch 4412 (12") and love it, but it's 'pricey' ($700). Dual Bevel and all the controls are up front. Highly recommended for the 'Spoiled'. Sounds like you may be better served with a 10", to serve your needs.

The Dewalt 706 is an excellent dual bevel 12" miter saw. It has high fences in the back on both sides which the Bosch sadly lacks. It will cut through 7" against the fence.
For hardwood flooring a 12" is overkill. Have you considered Bosch's 24V cordless miter saw? Several of the flooring guys around here swear by them.

I ahve the dewalt 708 and I find it to be a great saw!
Sometimes I find myself wishing fo the extra cut height on the 706 though!

I own both. 2 708s and 5 706s. Both are excellent saws. My oldest 708 is 5 years old and still working every day. I've had the 706s since the day they came out and they are still running strong. All these saws get used 8 hours a day, 7 days a week. The fence height and other amenities make them superior to every other 12" saw on the market as far as I'm concerned.

I have a 12" DeWalt compound miter (non-sliding)and like it very much. I am not a DeWalt fan and I admit to this freely :D Mine has served flawlessly for several years and for many a large project.

I now have a Ridgid 12", and I'm very happy with it. I tried the Ryobi 10",
and had so many problems with it that Home Depot felt sorry for me and refunded my money. Bought the Ridgid (and their folding table), and would strongly recommend it for construction as well as for the workshop freaks like myself.

I take it your concern with fence height is because of the way you cut your crown molding?, - - I cut mine on the flat anyway, - - so fence height is really of little or no concern to me personally.

Yes, that is the primary reason. A saw with an uneven fence negates the ability to use crown stops.
And when you install as much crown as we do dicking around with miter and bevel settings is not an option.

had the DeWalt 12" Double Bevel Compound Miter and thought it was great. When it got stolen I replaced it with the Bosch sliding 10". Maybe I just need to get used to the sliding, but I think I liked the Dewalt better.

Yeah, - - it is somewhat of an adjustment when you're already used to something, - - I'm kinda used to several of 'em, - - I've got two 'chops' (delta and Makita), - - and two 'slides' (Bosch and Craftsman-Contractor-Series), - - and I'm always switchin' back and forth, - - according to the job I'm doing.
