I'm curious, when, as rule of thumb do you stop pouring? When the temps consistently drop below freezing? I am a little further south than you but I am trying to gauge what my window of opportunity is here. I know that it is possible to pour year round but the risks and cost outway waiting until spring....which leads me to another question ...when would you start pouring again?

We can actually pour year round as long as its not too far below freezing. The only problem is the footings which cannot be poured on frost. Therefore it has to be removed and replaced with new fill with the footings poured quickly after that. The foundation walls generate enough heat on their own to not freeze. In winter, we get the house rooftight and fire in 2 or 3 propane heaters to thaw out the backfill again to pour the floor. Unfortunately all of these things cost money so we try to get enough foundations in the ground before the end of November which is when the frost really gets into the ground. Mid-April the ground starts to thaw and there is little likelyhood of new frost.

For those interested, our winter temperatures generally range between -10 and 0 (celcius).
