Things are starting to take shape on our cabin building quest.
I have an excavator to meet next weekend, and just got off the phone with a liscenced septic installer.
After some general chat he metioned that for only a diference of $150 he recomends going with a concrete holding tank.

I know very lttle about septic tanks and systems.
I assume the alternative to concrete would be a type of plastic material?

Anyone in the know and can agree or disagree with this advice, and perhaps explain why one is prefered over the other?

I ws pleasantly surprised by his quote of $2,000-$2,200 for the complete job, including permit.

Thanks,

Jeff

I have an uncle that used to make plastic septic tanks and they met all requirements. He had been in concrete tanks for years befre and knew everything there was about septic tanks. In fact my cousin (his son) sits on some advisory board about these things. Anyways about plastic tanks: the one problem I sort of remember was something about high water tables lifting the tank out of the ground. Hard to believe but apparently it happened. Some of the good things is that you can have the hole dug at anytime and then just drag the plastic tank over by hand and drop in the hole. A very expensive boom truck is not needed for delivery or installaation. Plastic should be less expensive than concete. I know my uncle had to go to the hospital to remove the smile on his face when he sold them. He used to sell them to cottage owners who used to just throw them in the water and then float them over to their cottage. Try doing that with concrete.

I've honestly had to fill up a concrete tank with water to get it to sink before I got it backfilled.. but anyway I would suggest concrete for longevity alone and fewer possibilities of damage to it.
