I just resurrected a 1000 Mhz PC and got it up and running at home to replace my old (cough, cough, wheeze wheeze) 400 Mhz clone. I have it set up with a VPN (Virtual Private Network) so I can operate my home computers from work and my work computers from home. The old PC is going to become a personal file server, HTTP server, POP mail server, database server and FTP server. I spent this evening setting up a VPN capable Linksys router.
I haven't decided if I will use Windows XP to run the server or try my hand at a Linux operating system. I have already set up a few Apache servers on windows boxes before.
Soon I will be hosting my own websites with unlimited storage.
I think I will go out tomorrow and buy a pocket protector!
LOL - yeah I'm right with ya..

My old Cyrix 166+ still runs. 1.6gb drive though 700mb of that is taken up with WinME.
For some strange reason I networked it to this beast. I'm really not sure why...

... sounds like my setup at home. I have a 1600 mhz pc, 880 mhz file/print server, and 1000 mhz tablet pc.
I have a pile of parts I just cant bring myself to throw out because it's perfectly good, just outdated.

Why throw out the old parts.....
I have my old P120 board that I'm going to put back together for a kids machine, and ordered a 200mhz cpu for $5 shipped to "upgrade' it.
....a lot of these cd games for the kids stuff will run on even a 486. Toy story game MAKES you dumb it down to 256 colors or it won't work, and it's not THAT old.

Yep. I've been telling people that who want to play older games for years.
Buy an older computer.

If you decide to try Linux give me a shout. I'm doing what you describe with older hardware running Linux on the servers and my desktop. My public webserver is a Celeron 466 w/128M of ram. I've been 100% Linux since 2000. If you've setup apache on a m$ os you may have some unix mindset issues, differences in the m$ way and the *nix way of thinking.

/me thinks *nix way is mo' better

I will keep that in mind, thanks.
Working on my VPN connection tp my workplace network right now.
Biggest Linux tip, find the local users group.
Linux Distros instrall and configure well for desktop use. Most all I've tried need serious security tweaking for server use.
I prefer the DeWalt 12" chopsaw for all crown mold work. If one can't think upside down and backwards one should not run crown mold.

chmod 755
LOL @ thinking upside down and backwards and chmod 755 (wood and linux speak in the same post)

No! Don't use those, they'll make holes in your firewall! ;-)
