Are you wanting to design houses or just mess around with the program?

Ok when I first started Autocad, I also found the tutorial confusing so I contacted CadInstitute.com and they sent me some info about taking some internet classes. Well I spent the money on it and it helped me alot, now i have no questions regarding what to do when i am designing. BTW- I took the classes 3 years ago and it might be a little different now.

I have been using AutoCad for about 15 years, if you need any specific advice on using the system please do not hesitate to contact me and I will be glad to advise if possible.

Ron,

If you know where to get an indepth tutorial on Architectural Desktop 2004 it was be greatly appreciated. I too have been using Autocad for about the same amount of time but ADT 2004 is a different animal, especially creating an elevation from a fdn plan.

Google is your friend:

http://www.netwind.com/html/architectural-desktop-2005.html (a little pricey)

http://www.avatechsolutions.com/training/classroom/courses.asp?catID=2 (classes around the country)

http://www.cadforum.cz/cadforum_en/default.asp?tab=2 (seems a bit unorgainzed, but a collection of tips, searchable)

Or, keep looking for more:

I took the 3-day intro course in AutoCAD from Avatech Solutions a few months ago. It was excellent.

Check with your local High School to see if they offer any CAD course for Adult education programs. Their course will give you the basics. For Architectual CAD Drawing I recomend a book called "Learn AutoCADLT 2000i for Architects" by James Padgett. Around $40. in the USA. This book took me from basics to drawing very nice and complete house plans in less than a day. I still use the methods I learned from this book.

I use several different drafting software packages, including AutoCAD. Using it the way you intend to can get the job done (muddling through) but taking a course will DEFINATELY help a LOT.

Another idea is a local community college. I'm too lazy to figure out where New Windsor, NY is, but it probably isn't too far from a city/town large enough to support a college/university/trade school that has a computer drafting course listing. Investigate.

I self-taught myself when I was in college - they didn't have a decent course setup there yet. And I got tired of re-inking my drawings when some so called professor told me to change something.
Figured I could plot much quicker than inking.
I've taught several people how to use autocad - but not by way of a tutorial.
