I am dealing with a customer that can't be satisfied. We tore off his roof, built out his overhangs, capped the overhangs with aluminum fascia and soffit and then installed gutters. We also rebuilt his two chimneys.
Complaint #1... some garbage was left behind when the dumpseter was removed. Some aluminum bits were left behind after the clean up. There are gaps where the old gable soffit meets the new drip edge soffit. Pitch pans on the flat roof were installed in the wrong locations and incorrect sizes.
Resolutions #1... we sent a crew to clean the remaining garbage which fell off the dumpster when the company was removing it. My boss and I both cleaned the entire backyard looking for any bit of garbage. We replaced some wood at the imaginary gaps from new to old soffit. We removed all 14 pitch pans and installed new pitch pans in the proper locations and proper sizes.
Complaint #2... There is still garbage left behind. Tiny bits of aluminum everywhere. A pallet, which isn't ours, is left behind.
There is no humanly possible way to clean the yard further than it has already been cleaned. What to do?
Geesh. Run a mower over it and hopefully it'll blow into the neighbors yard. :D Just kidding of course. The only thing I can think of is get a.. nevermind.. don't think magnets attract aluminum. I don't think a rake will work either if they are that small. Vacuum / Shop vac?
Maybe ask the homeowner if they have a solution. That lets them think they came up with the idea. I really don't know.

Our neighbour rents a lawn vac every year - sucks up every piece of dog s--t, and everything else, including broken glass bits.

"Hi, - - we're here to do a final clean-up of your yard, - - our 'apologies', - - we thought we cleaned up pretty good, - - just take us around and point out to us anything we've missed, - - and we'll be more than glad to pick it up, - - that way we can get 'squared-up', - - and we can move on to the next job, - - you see, - - none of my guys get paid until I do, - - so I'm sure you can understand my concern".

Ok just to follow up with you guys I tried everything in the book, went back to clean and clean and clean. I did what was suggested above, where the owner was supposed to show me each and every spot and I would personally clean it... He blew me off, never answered the door.
We ended up filing a mechanic's lien on his property but the bastard actually refinanced during all this B.S. I left that company, but at the point I left we still hadn't gotten paid. :( I told my former boss to foreclose the lien many many times. There's no purpose to file a lien and do nothing with it.

If I remember correctly, Every time you vist the job site your lein rights are intact or something like that. Grumpy is right, they just do not want to pay. Go look for the scrap again and file another lein.

I worked on a job like that, Called the client "Betty Bucks" more money than brains...Built her a $15k dog pen out of rough cedar, she didn't want to pay because the cedar intimidated her full size french poodles...
Built her a cedar deck at the back of the house too. One day we get a screaming ranting/pissing & moaning Betty on the phone...turns out her septic pump & cleanout (that she knew was there, buried 4 feet under the deck, but she forgot to tell us, "oh dear me" she sighed), had over-flowed and bubbled up through the deck and was pouring forth...
Blames us of coarse...
Well I guess that's what happens when you have all 25 of your portly family members over to show off the new/used house (about a 30 year old house) you bought at the oceanside, and never had the septic system inspected or pumped before they all started to plug it up for ya!!...didnt want to pay for the deck because it had crap all over it...
Turns out the motor on the pump was so old it had rotted, shorted out and blew the breaker and would no longer pump to the septic field located away from the house...
No matter what you do you'll always end up with a Betty Bucks in some cases...
