BUILDING A PORCH

i want to add a 12 x5 porch to the front of my house , the 1 thing i am not sure about is attaching the roof of the porch to the roof of the house
the roof on the house is pretty steep

The following link will should give a good idea of what needs to be done.

That shows a 2x6 laid flat on the roof and the ridge beam attaches at the top and will tie into the trusses or whatever you decide to do there. The rafters are then cut to match and tie into the flat 2x6. This of course assumes you are doing a gable type roof. Let me know if that's not what you are thinking and I can come up with another drawing.

The "ledger board" can be put on the roof itself or on the face of the wall as your situation requires.
