Are hard wired smoke detectors in every bedroom and hallway code for new construction in other areas? I live in Redlands CA. and city is making me put hard wired detectors in every bedroom and hallway in my room addition. I could live with it for added safety (just curious). Do these detectors need their own dedicated circuit?

They are code in northern virginia and mine are on thier own dedicated circuit. Mine also have battery backup.
They are even thinking about requiring sprinklers here. That would stink the way that my wife cooks! :)

Code in Arkansas as well.

Code pretty much everywhere.

Residential sprinkler systems don't operate off of the smoke detectors, but are heat triggered, so unless your wife starts very large fires when she cooks , it would be just fine.

On the other hand, if she does start very large fires when she cooks, a sprinkler system might be just the thing :)

I hear ya', Rodster, - - I'd be gettin' a 'shower' before every meal. My wife's a great cook, - - she just don't know when to stop!

Best thing she makes is 'Reservations'!

She's how I learned why they call red meat 'rare'!
