Forum,

We'll be putting our 2-story home's footer on rough rocky soil in the Hill Country of Texas (known as Edward's Plateau). We'll have a crawlspace. There is a lot of limestone in the area.

1.) Without a sub-zero temp. concern in this part of TX, is there a particular depth I should go down? (We're not in a city with a building code.)

2.) If we hit a limestone bed, which we've seen on other parts of our property, do we: Cut into it, level it out, and pour the footer there? Try to get through to the bottom of it? Go with it as-is, not level, putting rebar down into it vertically to 'tie it in' to our footer? Or other?

As always, thanks for any advice!

1) I would say go as deep as you can (no more than 4' though) to get as much of the rock bearing as possible.
2) Level it out as much as possible and pour it there. Make sure that the smallest cross section is at least 8" on the footing.
