Quick Trivia !

What is the "black diamond" every 19.2" represent on your tape measure?

Most don't even know it excist and have used tape measures their whole life...heh Others are aware of it and have never bothered to find out what it means.

Winner gets 100 points... :)

The black diamond on the top scale starts at 19.2 inches is for truss layouts for 8-foot sheet goods also referred to as the "black truss" markings. Originally 19.2 was used in metric layouts,If you divide five into 96 inches, it will give 19.2 inchesin other words, 5 trusses per sheet.

It became popular for the engineered floors with the wider top flanges because the open span approximated 16" OC with dimensional lumber allowing the use of standard floor sheathings. Now the higher performance floor sheathings are catching up to the capacity of the engineered floors allowing 19.2" and 24" sheathing spans on 1-1/2" flanges.

Cute dude, heh.. remember your fired b4 you hit the ground !

And if you live from falling and knot fired we need studs. Bring up hundreds of 2x4's (92.5/8) and start building several bucks/channles.
Remember the 7' 2x4's are for door trimmers... Pay attention.

Ok guys... Pencils down. This is straight from our 4th most recognized symbol in the world besides Coca Cola being the 2nd and the cross 1st. This answer is from Stanley Tools. Remember Lauren & Hardy? heh

"The black diamond marks every 19.2" on our tape rule blades are for spacing Engineered Lumber joists and studs. Several wood product manufacturers offer Engineered Lumber as a substitute for conventional lumber. Span tables for these lumber products provide ratings for spacing of 12in., 16in., 19-3/16in., and 24in. If you multiply these dimensions by 8, 6, 5 and 4, respectively, you'll notice that you come up with 96in., the length of the panels that will be used for sub-flooring or sheathing. Engineered Lumber is usually specified by the architects and engineers who draw the plans. They take advantage of its strength by using fewer joists or studs where codes allow".

Ok, although Cole_21 responded 1st and about a 1/2 hour later mjpliv. Both in and around and about, beneath, between, and behind basically described the same thing.

mjpliv mentioned the key word which is "Engineered" but typed "engineered floors" The black diamond originally was meant for spacing Engineered Lumber joists and studs.

Can we call it a tie? and since I'm new let me off the hook? LOL.... I never mentioned what the 100 points are or mean.
I was'nt expecting such a response.

How about this. Instant Karma for 1 week? :)
