Wow, another great find (for me)! Thanks, Rich!

I was told by my architect or lumber supplier (forget which) that I can only get truss floor joist in 14" height when I need 12" ht maximum. Oh, BTW, how does this compare to TJI regarding pricing?

Not sure on pricing - never used them. Call them up and ask who their local supplier is and have them price it up for you. They shouldn't have any problem at all giving you an estimate - same goes for TJI suppliers.

Oh, OK. I see that there's only one supplier close by (within 30 mi) that supplies "trimjoist". Disappointed that there won't be competitive bids.

BTW, I was quoted roughly $126 for one 32' long TJI, 12" ht. That's quite a bit higher than a regular 2x12 boards priced roughly $48 for 32' span (two 16' boards spliced) not including splicing material. Is that price differential typical? Keep in mind that I was trying to get a feel for price per unit length for different type of floor joist.

Remember this - the cost of a material is not only the bare material costs. If I can frame a floor 3 times faster with TJIs or TrimJoists and have a superior product - is there really a cost difference? There is also value to the homeowner which decreases apparent cost to the homeowner. It's completely engineered with established guidelines for installation - which equates to no call backs on squeaky floors (if installed correctly), no worry about where you drill holes (it's in their manual), no knots that could weaken the structure..etc..etc.

I have used just about every type of floor joist system out there at one time or another. This is my favorite so far -

Say that looks good, too! What O.C. spacing do you usually use with this open truss floor? I'm not sure if it's cost effective for me to order out of state (closest mfg is Michigan, ship to Missouri). Does anyone here have experience with shipping/cost effectiveness over several states? BTW, thanks for sharing.

All the span tables are published on the website in PDF format. Make sure you use the US tables and you want to size/space the joists for a minimum of 40 pounds live load.

can you intermix the different joists( tji,trus-joist,openjoist,etc) if the loads and span are the same....i m asking because i only want to use the openjoist where the plumbing and ventilation will be....

There may be some deflection criteria differences - but they should be noticed on the span tables of each type.
