What do you usually wear when you are meeting a new client?
Now after you answer the poll question, Ask urself does the client really care, what i am wearing?
A tough question to be honest. The problem with dressy is they think you're making too much money and going to take them for everything they have.. less than casual and they think you're a hack. I always opt for clean - whether I have a hat on or not shouldn't matter as long as I don't track mud in their home or my office. Although, couple together the whatever I have on that day and a reputation (with pictures and walkthroughs) helps them see that you're just a regular guy trying to make a living by building the best possible home for their needs.

I'd also add that it depends on the type of job. You guys are bidding on large project with major $$. If I'm bidding a small job (couple hundred dollars) I think clean and kept is the right way to go.
If you are going in front of a business (particularly corporate), dressy (nice shirt and sport coat) is probably better. I do a bunch of stuff for a buddy that does all corporate work. He's provided me with nice polo shirts so I look good and presentable any time I have to meet with one of his clients.
I can't imagine where I'd need to wear a shirt and tie in my line of handyman/carpentry work... On the other hand, muddy, ripped, and desheveled is NEVER OK.

Depends on the location and work I am to be selling. Someties jeans and a polo. Sometimes jeans and a T shirt. SOmetimes Khakis and a polo. No matter what, if I have a clean shirt with my log, I prefer to wear that logo.
Also I am most comfortable in jeans and a polo but I think khakis look more professional IMO.
