Block laying technique

When I was doing my block work for my garage I was having trouble finishing off the last block in each course. What I did was butter both edges, pressed the joints and slid the block in between the two already placed. Does anyone have any suggestions or tips on how to finish these joints?

with a concave jointer by marshalltown or rose...these are available at any masonry supply store or home depot...a 5/8-3/4 usually works best
