Just finished this portico today, - - the columns are 8 X 8 fluted alumimum, - - the barrel is painted pine bead-board, - - the rest is wrapped with painted aluminum coilstock.

Lousy pictures, - - am I shrinking them too much? Gotta be below 800 pixels, right? Glad the 'build' don't look this bad!

I cut out a 1/32" X 1" rabbett on the bottom back edges of the 1 X 4 fascia, - - so the 'face piece' of aluminum could 'slide' underneath and not only eliminate some of the nailing, - - but at the same time eliminate any 'rippling' on the face from the expansion in the summertime (it runs 3/4" into the 1" slot).

Nice attention to fit and finish TomR!

Did you use any plywood?

Thanks, - - and of course, - - plywood for the roof, the facing, and the radiuses (or is it 'radi-i'?), (or is that the plural for radio's?), - - but then, - - I digress here, - - Oh, yeah, - - I would have brought some OSB along, - - but I didn't need any spacers!

osb isn't good for spacers. It swells too much.

Nice job on the Portico.

Nice job on the Portico.

But then again, - - you could just bring a small piece with you, - - and by just adding the right amount of water, - - get any size spacer you need.

Thanks, Cole, - - some guy stopped by the job yesterday and said he wants the exact same portico over his porch, - - so I told him I can do it, but it'll have to wait til Springtime, - - busy, busy.
