The first time, I was on alexa.com and found a site that referenced yours. Saw the reference, but didn't need anything at the time, so I forgot about it.
The second time, I was searching for DIY advice on Google and navigated here (I remembered my first encounter and paid closer attention this time).
..Hope this helps.

Using Google SE
Search Term: carpenter chats and forums
Results 1 - 10 of about 7,940 for carpenter chats and forums. (0.10 seconds)*
Your site is #10 on the bottom of the first page. It could be different when you click because SE ranking moves quick.
Below is the current text for the google link.

Whats cool is that a story I posted here on your site in the "accidents" forum is the link that is on Google today/now. The story is about a guy that shot himself in the heart with a nail gun.
Interesting to see how sites eventually spider up in search engines (SE's). SE placement is important. I've been researching these spiderings for a few years.
Here is a good tool to use if anyone likes to see how much traffic certain keywords bring in, it kinda let's you know where peoples heads are at and what their searching for and search terms they use. This search engine is the old `Go To` now called Overture.com SE.
A simple page. Just type any word in the small box and go.

I accidently found this website while trying to find a little help in wording an ad for our construction company. Needless to say, I still have not finished the ad this morning, but have been browsing through this website. I found the information so great, I had to register. Our company has been in business for 4 years in Maryland, and like all builders have seen our fair share of ups and downs, great homeowners, and dead beats. It's so nice to hear that other people go through it too, and it just isn't us. I found the section of this website that dealt with estimating to be a great tool. The calulators were a plus I wan't expecting to see either. I also took the time to read through your "horror stories" sections. I have a situation to post there too, as I'm sure we all have. Anyway, just wanted to say hi, and let you know I enjoy the website. Thanks!
Welcome to the site TskFrce.

I found you by searching with Goggle for stair making programs. It took me to some discussions you must have had some time ago. Very happy to have found this site and hope some one will be able to help me out.

Hello to everyone. I am not a contractor or an electrician (if you've seen a post i have left this will be apparent). However I have worked on a 100+ year old house for the past 13 years - not that THAT qualifies me for anything but bankruptecy (bad spelling - apologies).
Found this site as most seem to have - google search. And as one had said - seems like there was some information here that made more sense than some sites i've seen.
Well, I'm from Michigan and have a new place that I'm trying to get a 'shop' wired so - thats the current situation.
I'm glad a site like this exists and thanks in advance for any information.

Hello to all. I stumbled on this informative forum while looking for pictures of Simpson post and beam brackets. That said, I must reluctantly admit, I'm not a builder. :( Yet, I guess like most, I've done a few home projects, such as adding a studio to my house, etc. I also once built a 26' sailboat designed by David Pyle for the single handed trans Atlantic races. Later, when we married, my wife and I bought a 36' hull. We completed it, including mast and diesel engine, and launched from Corpus Christi TX. We moved aboard and maintained it for five years while sailing around the Gulf of Mexico, finally coming ashore and buying a house and gallery in St. Petersburg Fla.
For the most part, I've followed my bliss as a full time representational painter. :D ‘Have done uncountable quick pastel portraits, and many formal oil and acrylic portraits and landscapes. My main hobbies are sailing and writing, mostly fiction. But I've done a lot of very un-interesting things to earn a living, particularly when in high school and college. Yet one of the best jobs I've ever had was while working as a laborer in construction. Apart from enjoying the workout, and always feeling very fit, I simply liked the notion of being able to see the buildings grow as well as the satisfied feeling of knowing I had a small hand in it.
Enough of the bio. I'd better get back to our current project. We intend to waterproof our second floor 10' X 33' deck, which will create a nice dry area/porch underneath. ( Very important here in on Fox Island WA.. and for us to sit outside or in the hot tub, and enjoy the island's shoreline on a rainy day. ) However, since the deck is level, we need to create at least a 1/4" slant per foot. That means jacking up all four 6" X 6" posts and removing the post/beam brackets as well as 1 1/4" from the top of each post.
So far I've carefully removed all of the 1" facia so we can get to the brackets. Since we don't even know what a builder's jack looks like, I'm a bit timid about using them. That said, ;) I've hired a couple of pros to come over on Sunday to jack it up and trim the posts. I'll then sheath the existing cedar decks with 1/2" cdx plywood and treat it with Ames Research elasto-barrier, and roof cloth.
Our next project wiil be an additional such deck on the rear of the house in order to enjoy the woods. Next, a flagstone, very private, patio in the rear, nearer the woods. What fun!
Best wishes,
charlie

Ctalk has #1 for construction forum and we have #1 for construction forums
asnider - I dont mind you having a link to your company in your signature but when you start self promoting in a post I have to draw a line. Overall there are a very small amount of contractors on here versus the people asking the questions that would even benefit from your software. CTalk is more for the contractor.

Okay, that's fine....I understand the one you pulled where I mentioned my new software. But the one where I mentioned windows live mesh is not promoting my product. That's just a cool piece of technology that Windows just released.....why did you pull that? Everyone in the world can benefit from Live Mesh.
Not sure why I pulled that one to be honest... go ahead and post it again if you like.

My house was built in 1978...and while that doesn't go too far back, my house is beginning to show it's age. After all, it is in it's 30's now. So I will be asking much.
But hey....last year I figured out how to put a toilet in....That's something!!! For me at least ;)

I found you from a search engine, while searching for concrete related forums. I'm trying to build some links for my site, but I'm also interested in being a strong contributing member and helping everyone out.
I'm a writer for several dozen local contractor companies (full-time employee for one company, web designer for others), and I've spent the last 4 years doing nothing but write about home improvement stuff. So I'm kind of a home improvement/web techie hybrid.
I'm also here to learn -- with this kind of thing, that's a lifetime task. It's great to see such an active place with so much collective knowledge!

Hi was looking around online asking questions and your forum popped up.
I am starting on a project in West Texas that will be a retirement home for us eventually. I purchased a lot with an old trailer on it and came to the conclusion that reducing it to the chassis was the only way to move forward.
That said, I do and will have many questions. I would like to add piers (using sonotubes) around the chassis, level everything , then re-deck and continue with traditional pier and beam construction methods. The new dimensions will be 18x66 (working off of the existing frame of 14x60)
I will be adding lots of windows at one end as there is a terrific view to be had.
My most pressing question at this time is how far apart can the piers be? I was thinking of using 2) 2x8's for the spans. Thanks in advance, Sarah:)

I was looking for jokes to post to our website and Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Centennial-Construction/208953575860137) pages and the construction resource forum showed up on the Google search!
Loved it enough to join in.
Thanks.
I actually heard about the site from an associate. Thanks for the information and creating this watering hole. It helps a lot.
