Hello members.
I'm looking for comments / advice.
I am finishing off a attached 2 car garage (only 1 9' door) that will be used as a woodworking shop, music appreciation room, ping-pong for the kids and their friends, and yes, to occaisionaly park one car.
I live in Connecticut, so winters will need heat. I have a coal stove for that. The room was never insulated, so I just finished putting R13 (batts) between the studs. I like to play my music loud, and woodworking machines make a lotta noise. I want to be good to the neigbhors.
Would it be wise to try a product like TUFFS fiberblass 4x8 sheets over the studs (interior walls). A 1/2" layer will give another R3, while providing another layer of accoustical barrier. Their may be better products out there. Some may give more accoustical value, while others more R-value. I don't want to go to the extent of DOUBLE WALL CONSTRUCTION.
I plan on finishing my walls with a "beaded" real wood looking 7/16 "plywood material. It comes in 4x8 sheets, and it is ship-lapped (no taping, as in gypsum).
I know I'll need to use longer screws / nails to fasten through styrofoam (which also comes in a R-6.5 1" panel). The styrofoam has foil on each side, which is supposed to be a vapor barrier. The insulation I just put up is faced.
Is this wise?
Thanks, Paul 52
