installing hardwood floors from living area to entry hall, should you keep parallel to door opening (living room), or perpendicular, to be parallel to the stairs step(entry hall).should i start from stairs out to living room or vise versa...or do a transition at door opening... :?
Ummm... not sure about your layout. Is what I try and do is run the flooring to make the room look as large as possible. As you enter your living room - layout it parallel to the longest direction from the entry. Then if the hallway is going to look too cut up by following that same direction put in a "threshold" at the opening and run the hallway the other direction.

i want to avoid putting a transition "threshold" making it one floor space. the long wall "is" parallel to opening, but 90 deg. to staircase.i like seeing the naturel (parallel) transition from step to floor.if i go perpendicular to opening (parallel to short wall) where do i start?
I would say the living room runs along the flow of traffic (in your excel file - right to left) which will make the shorter dimension look longer and the hallway will just look a little narrower.
So everything runs left to right in your excel file.
Of course that's just my opinion.

45 it.
:D
right to left or left to right versus up and down (in regards to your plan as drawn).

Ok I really wasn't joking.
Borders and patterns within rooms also help break it all up and add some class.

There shouldn't be any more appreciable waste, - - use your 'cut-offs' to start your next row (at the other end).
