ok so answer the question of the topic and say why,

my likings,

i like hand tools because you can complete control of what you are doing and there are certain things i can do that arnt possible with those big clumsy things (even though they are quick)

just wanted to know what everyone thinks about this

I tend to lean towards using machines for the "bulk" work and then fine tune with hand tools. I'm talking about building furniture. For production work on a typical stick built home - all power tools. If I'm doing a timber frame structure - then I lean towards using a saw and drill for major wood removal then fine tuning with chisels etc.

It is situational.

Every machine has a purpose/function, the main one being to increase productivity and reduce labour time therefore making you more money (if your in business)!!

However, having good hand skills and the knowledge of your trade and "how" to use tools is equally important.

Mr Wadkin, will beat Mr hardpoint in a race through an 8x2 any day!!

Actually, the right machine, properly maintained and set up correctly is faster and more accurate than hand tooling can ever be.

not so much when ya gotta drag the damn thing 300 feet into an incompletely prepared jobsite... and then find the one remaining power connect not already scauffered by another crew!

That is why I have my own service panels. Power is something I don't do without.

I have to say, I think my nail gun is the coolest toy I've ever owned. Yeah, that's right, I called it a toy!
