I need to run a new line from my meter to the location in my utility room to run the radiant boiler and addition electrical. It is starting to freeze and I can still dig the trench since it will be close to the house and ground not froze yet, but my question is, do I need to cover it as soon as the line is dropped in? Or can I leave it til Spring? My concern is by the time the line goes in the dirt piles will be frozen.
Thanks,
Jason

Well... let's put it this way, if you dig a hole 10 feet deep and you don't cover it, you've just dropped the frost nine in that area by 10 feet. So you must dig the hole, cover it and pack it down (down just leave loose dirt on top), all before the ground freezes.
I hope this helps.

OK, maybe I should ask the straight forward question.
Does anyone know if it will effect the wiring, electrical inspection, etc. if I leave the line uncovered through the winter?

I doubt that the electric line is going to be hurt by exposure. Waters likely to fill in that trench but it shouldn't be a factor if you run the proper wire. I would suggest running the line in grey pipe and putting plywood or something over the top of the trench for safety reasons.
