Hey All,
I was assigned by my grandmother to complete a super computer ergonomic setup for her! She has a bad back..and has recently just gotten arthritis in her hands and wrists. Her profession is medical transcription, so you can see, that she had to figure something out quick!
Anyways, i'm about 90 percent done with her setup, and i'm pretty proud of what i've accomplished so far. With the current setup, she can lay on her back and still work and type on the computer!! She also doesn't have to use a mouse thanks to the smartnav EG package (www.naturalpoint.com)
Check out the attached picture..you'll see the whole setup visually, and you'll be able to see the final component of which I NEED YOUR HELP for...to complete the setup. This final component needs to be purchased or made somewhere, somehow...and then i'm completely done!
Happy constructing!
Any suggestions, comments, ideas, etc..much appreciated!
thanks,
Wow good luck, I have no ideas for you. Did you do the drawing yourself?

forget the blue thing, just get her a bed that has a footer or make one...add a piece to it with an ajustable rod, and screw in the pedals. BTW who is going to ajust it for diff. positions when she needs to...electric motor? remote...

Hey Steeve,
I don't have the money to buy a bed with a footer, and i'm sure making one would be hard. Also, can you give me more specific instructions or a drawing of how i would make a piece with an adjustable rod??
I'm in no way a construction guy..so I'm not good at building stuff with tools..I could do it though, if I had a little bit of direction or instructions of some sort of what you mean.
Oh, and my grandpa is the one who will change the adjustment for her...but that would be awesome if i could get a remote to do it!! hahah..
thanks for any info..

Hey! that's pretty damn good idea!! I think I understand what you mean!
I have a proposal for you now. Don't even feel obligated AT ALL..I just thought I'd throw it out there.
If you build this for me....I WILL PAY YOU. I will cover the costs of the parts, I will pay you for the labor, and lastly, I will pay you for the shipping costs. I'll give you the dimensions of the board too.
If you decide to do it, I will send payment via paypal once i receive the piece...or mail you a check if you prefer that instead.
Let me know either way. If you don't wanna do it, no problem..I will try and figure out how to build it myself...even though i sucked in highschool's shop class..lol
I liked your drawing..gave me a total idea of what you mean..
thanks! 8)
How about you just pay me a 5% finders fee LMAO

C'mon chal7ds, buying stuff is no fun, that's why were're in this furum, design and build it, it shouldn't cost more then $20, you could even ask you grandpa to help you...i did my part you do yours...

Nice one Rich...nice one!
It's not that i don't wanna build it or can't, it's just that i go to school during the day and work full time at night and i take care of homework on the weekends..it's just hard to fit in time for something like this...and i figured since you guys are already probably on this forum cause you're construction builders anyways, you'd enjoy a fun side project for money. If not interested, no problem..i'll just squeeze in some time to build it myself! or, i'll take Rich's advice on his link...maybe i should just buy a vice...i mean, it's pretty much like your drawing, no? except that maybe attaching the foot pedal to the metal part might not be as easy, unless the vice panel has open screw holes in it or something...i don't see them on the picture...
alright, thanks a lot for your help though ya'll...
The jorgensen type vises are setup to accept larger pieces of wood to "vise" items between. You might find cheaper ones in your local area under wood vise or similar.

Actually, I think I found a cheaper solution and it's not made not of metal, so that's probably good for my grandma.
Take a look at the link pasted below...it's a footrest, but triangle shaped..so that something (like a foot pedal, in this case) can be set against it diagonally..
When she needs to move the pedal back and forth, my grandpa can
just adjust the strap which holds it to the bed firmly.
Pretty cool...and a whole lot cheaper than a vice! :D
