I'm planning on installing wood flooring in new home, including on treads for stairs. Do most places actually sell the treads as one piece? Including the bullnose? What are the standard sizes? What depth should the stair tread be framed at?
Also considering using wood to border carpet in some rooms. Any special considerations?
Thanks!
You can purchase premolded stair treads.
As far as how big your tread is depends on your floor to floor height, local codes, any overhead obstructions.
No special considerations unless you have a concrete floor or gypcrete floor. Oh I guess you could look at dadoing out the back side of the wood against the carpet to get a cleaner look. Essentially the carpet would tuck under the edge of the wood border.

You can buy premolded stair parts but I really prefer making my own.
As far as bordering goes you can rabbit the wood out so that the carpet tucks under or you can round over the edges and let the carpet butt to it. Do not attach finished hardwood directly to concrete. A plywood subfloor will need to be installed first.
