I know this really isn't a tool, but goes along with it. I just bought (with guidance from forum members here) the Husky 32 Gallon compressor that came with the tools, but the hose is really stiff, especially in these ~10-20 below days we've been having. Anyone suggest a good brand of hose that stays flexible in the cold?

I know the feeling :)

I suggest polyurethane hose. Best place I know of to pick it up is Northern Tool, stores in Burnsville, Minnetonka, and one out near Woodbury.

Light and flexible. And I really should go buy some myself (I used to have a nice 100' one, but it walked with the rest of my tools last spring). The rubber ones I have right now are murder to use in this weather.

Hmm. Think I'll run down to Northern right now. Might as well since I need to get down to the southern edge of Bloomington anyhow, and it's just across the river. (Cliff road, just east of I35W)

The ones we've always used are red rubber - never really looked at the manufacturer of them. *Running into garage to see*
Hmm.. well either my hoses are too old or the mfg was never printed on them :)

Thanks for the replies guys.

Ran over to the "Depot" at lunch and found a red rubber 50 footer that says it's good down to 10 below (I or thereabouts). Must have been quite a few peeps needing them...only 2 left on the shelf!

Rich, I don't believe this has the manuf. on the hose either.

It might be the same. When these were bought I just sent my old man down to town. Who knows where he got them from. Anyway - they work pretty good - not stiff.

I've been working in about 30 degrees for many weeks now. I'll call your red hoses, and raise you my orange ones. I think the orange one is a Firestone, but I haven't had any high-speed blowouts yet. :) I had bought a Campbell Hausfeld hose (PVC - blue) at harbor freight that claims a workable temp down to 0. What a bunch of rubbish. I took it out of my car when it was about 40, and it wouldn't even uncoil.

PVC is the worst in cold. Rubber is a lot better. Polyurethane is still my favorite though. And it's a lot lighter and drags on your gun less.

Actually, those coiled plastic horrors that come with a lot of cheap compressors are a lot worse than PVC. But that goes without saying.

The hose that came with the compressor I believe is PVC and after having it in the house for a couple days, still doesn't want to uncoil!

Another vote for the Polyurethane.

I'll have to look mine up tomorrow, it has numbers on it.

Great stuff though, especially for trimming where you don't want to hang on anything.

Well I'm a Framer and live outside chicago working year round BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR..... We only purchase real rubber hoses usually goodyear brand. Stay away from PVC defintely! Rubber hoses work well for us all year round. :)

down here in Texas, all the hoses work very good as we stop working anytime it gets below about 85 degrees. JUST TOO COLD.

Gee 85 (F) that's like 30 (Canadian) - our best summer days rarely get to 30! I've split 3 hoses in our -35 (c) winters, one just by unrolling it too... a fellow frostbitten friend then suggested using marine pipefitters air line purchased in bulk & cut to length, never had a problem since - it's some sort of nylon-fibrous rubber stuff also made by Goodyear if I remember right (smells like puke thou).
