I am planning to build a 12' or 14' x 27' hip roof over a patio. The roof will be attached to the back of the house. I have researched framing for the roof and have questions regarding two areas of construction.
I most likely will use a 4"x6" ledger board against the house and 4"x4" posts to support the roof structure. Would three posts and a 4"x6" beam be sufficient to support a 14'x27' roof?
My second question involves what I think are called the common rafters - the rafters that extend out from the center to the outside corners and attach to the fascia board From my research they appear to angle out 45 degrees from center. Due to the length of the roof I am unable to angle the rafters out 45 degrees. Do framers sometimes angle them out at less than 45 degrees?
I would appreciate any input. Thanks!
