Hi guys, need a little advice. I received *two* jigsaws as Xmas gifts. A Black and Decker JS600k (4.5 Amp) and a Craftsman 4681-05 (5.0 amp with a laser guide). Which one should I keep? Watcha guys think? I know this are both beginner tools, but that describes me perfectly, so please don't suggest taking them both back and buying a $300 DeWalt! Thanks for your input. Happy Xmas.

I would probably choose the Craftsman - just on name alone. When, and if, you go to upgrade buy the Bosch (by far the best one I've used).

Yeah, return them both and get a Bosch.

No disrespect meant Dragon, but why did you bother to post? I specifically said, don't suggest returning them both and buy a more expensive jigsaw. So that's EXACTLY what you do. I don't understand these forums at all. My point of view is, either help people in a way that is meaningful to THEM, or don't bother. But someone looking for help with Windows isn't aided by the "Get a Mac it's better" posts. Weird.

Rich, thanks for the input. I did decide to stick with the Craftsman.

I'm with you on that one donald, but people tend to get really defensive when they're called on it. I just try to live with it and tell myself "they're trying to help". I sometimes ignore myself and flame them anyway  . It is helpful though to know that so many like Bosch for jigsaws

Because, Donald, even though it isn't what you want to do it is precisely what you NEED to do. The Bosch doesn't cost $300 (I get them for $150 and that is a top of the line model.) and will literally give you years of fantastic service that outperforms every other jigsaw made.

I've owned the B&D's. I've owned the Craftsmans. I wish I had known about how good the Boschs when I bought my first jigsaw, if so I'd never have owned anything else.

If you returned them both you'd be spending what, $20-$40 extra and have something worth owning?

Yes, there is that much difference. I am sorry but I can not in good conscience advise you to keep either saw that you currently possess. Neither are worth the money that was spent on them.

Donald... No disrespect to you, but give the guy a break. He's giving you advice - be grateful he took the time to respond. It would have been nice if he initially explained why he was making that suggestion, but aside from that, that's what asking for advice is all about, you listen and you either follow the advice or not - if you don't want to follow it, then just ignore it. Besides in a rush, he could have mis-read your post and thought that you were considering that as an option. I hope my opinion doesn't tick you off, but sometimes people have to consider other view points, even if they don't agree with them.

P.S. one last point, by you saying.. "please don't suggest returning both"... it's like saying please give me advice, I don't know what to do, but restrict your answer to my parameters - some people don't function that way.... you could also say - I thought of returning the two and buying a Bosch but for my purposes I'd rather keep one of the two I have and use the money from the other for something else.

that_guy its really ok.

When I made my original post I have to admit that I was guilty of 'skimming' the topic and not reading his original post completely. He was completely justified in his response.

Still shuddering at the thought of anyone keeping a Craftsman Jigsaw
