Surely there is a better way to do the flashing on the electrical service entrance than what is shown below??? Obviously, a slip-on boot is out of the question, but is there a "clamshell" type available or some other method that would be effective and not so... ah... jerry-rigged looking as simply splashing asphalt cement around the penetration?

Honestly most of the time we do the same. The only other method is a adjustable boot with a side clamp, but these are known to leak, expensive and hard to find.
When we use the side clamp boots we always put a healthy dose of roof cement under neath. Essentially the boot is just there for cosmetics.

Well, then, I guess that's that.
Any suggestions on how to remove the existing cement? I will scrape off as much as possible then clean up with xylene unless there's a better way.
Also, what is the best cement to use here? Fiber-reinforced; cold-process; wet-r-dri... I imagine the thicker stuff would be better for building up a "boot", but the thinner stuff will wick through cracks better. :?:

Hammer and chisel works well.
Fibered plastic roof cement.
