I'm starting a self built project, a woodworking shop, 2400sf, a full bathroom, and lots of electrical. Planning on pouring footers and piers using plastic footer forms with 10" sonotubes cut to proper heighth. Basic structure using 2x12 beams and 2x10 joists. Probably use 2x6x10 walls, and clear span trusses.
Question is, Kershaw County wants me to give them costs of materials, and labor to issue a permit. Can anyone give me a figure for such a building on the cheap, as the cost of the permit is based on the cost of construction.
What I have figured, doing all the work myself, the cost would be about 25K.

Any help/suggestions/input would be greatly appreciated.

Cost Valuations
If you figure 25k for the cost - then that's the cost. That's all they should need if you are building yourself. If they want it seperated for materials and labor - put 25k materials and 0 for labor.
If I were to estimate and build it for you - it's probably going to be around $20-$25 / sf (finished) rule of thumb anyway.

I agree with Rich on the $20 - $25 per square foot. Actually, depending on the region, and how fancy you want it, it could go as high as $35 per square foot...

I also agree that I'd tell the county that the material cost is the full cost. You seem to be going above and beyond in terms of quality, etc... maybe reduce the material cost and put the rest on the labor cost. They are concerned because, either that is how the charge for their permits, or because that is how the want to track the improved cost of your property so your taxes can increase accordingly...
